For this project I first started to experiment with movement and images. I then tried to take my artwork and use GIF animation to highlight it’s interesting qualities, you can click here, to see the first GIF attempts.
For the Final project, I wanted to animate a portrait of a female in watercolor. I’ve always liked this figure because of her resemblance to a landscape. To highlight these aspects I decided to break down the main elements of the painting and reconstruct the image using collage and repetition. I decided to animate through fading, to slowly build up, reveal the figure and then fade away.
To create this GIF, I made one layer for each of the added elements on the page, about 17! To make each layer different, I used the lasso tool to select parts of the painting and isolate them. This was a new experience for me, since the only thing I have used photoshop for is to edit photographs size and qualities. When animating the project, I realized that to make the build up less timed and unified, I needed to be a bit random in how I tweened the frames. So, I did a lot of copy pasting and tweening between some random parts.
This is the Rough Draft Finished in class on Friday, it’s a little more choppy than the final.

I wanted to make the transitions smoother… More tweening.
This is the FINAL VERSION! I think the animation is smoother.
