My laser cut glasses came as an inspiration from my learning segment in another class, Curriculum and Instruction. I designed a lesson where students would make a personal symbols tag, for a class mural.
here’s a photo of my design.

Learning to use adobe illustrator was pretty easy with the instructor in the lab. I felt like his demonstration was incredibly useful, and time spent where we could ask a lot of questions allowed me to do something more complex than I would have done on my own.
I inserted an image into illustrator and then hand drew a contour line over the form. I wanted my Laser Cut glasses to come out looking a little bit more hand drawn.
Something I struggled with was grouping shapes and making sure my line work was in one form and not multiples. I ended up scratching the inner design because I was getting stuck.
I like the suggestion of making multiple pairs of these as wearables. I think it would be really cool to take such a rigid material and try to make it work for your face. Even making a hinge so the arms could fold in like real glasses. Although, it does seem a little silly since I depend on my glasses to see 4 inches in front of me, so they would have to be just a fashion piece.
I am very satisfied with the laser cut project, I can imagine using it to create intricate designed furniture, jewelry, stamps and print woodcuts.
I think I will use this technology in my future artwork, I just need to learn and experiment more on Illustrator!
