I currently teach Mosaics class at Triform. Students have been working on making mosaic artworks as well as signage for the community. The first project was drawing onto boards with different colors and shapes. Students had the freedom to choose any image they wanted to create. Once the drawings were finished, we began to lay out tiles of the same colors over their drawings. Students developed large mosaics by matching drawn colors to broken bits of pottery and tiles, learning to smash, cut and shape broken ceramic pieces and made decisions on the spacing and placement of mosaic materials. In the end the works were grouted.
